Robert C. Gray, b. 1989, l/w in London, UK.
My practice consists of sculpture, drawing and mixed media, combining ‘sloppy’ craft with earnest making, to create forms of an idiosyncratic and ad-hoc nature. I am interested in the nuances between the comedic theatrics and harsh realities of contemporary middle youth culture – those being persons 25-35 years of age who are caught between societal expectation and low commitment. Through autobiography and the audacity to believe I am the voice of my generation, I explore self-entitlement, futile aspiration, latency, desire and the feared loss of nurturing relationships.
I graduated with a BA in Film & Moving Image production (2011) from Leeds Metropolitan University (now Leeds Beckett) and an MA in Fine Art (2018) at Chelsea College of Arts.
